“When Quarter Dollars Were New” by John Barber
This overview is a guide to the economic times in our post colonial era. The products of the first United States Mint
gradually replaced commerce based largely, on the Spanish Colonial monetary system. We will look at Pistareens and Spanish Colonial Two Reales coins. Federal Draped Bust and Capped Bust quarters, the nation’s first two types, will be thoroughly examined. The talk concludes just before the coming of the Seated Liberty coinage in the 1830s.
Our speaker is the editor and chief writer of GHCC’s award winning newsletter, the “Double Shift”. Generally recognized as our region’s foremost expert on early U.S. Mint products, John is also the eponymous Dr. Coyne of TNA News.
